「医療通訳」と一口に言っても、患者さんの受診に付き添う通訳と、医療機関が海外の企業や医師と話し合う会議の通訳では、必要な準備がまったく違います。どちらのご依頼もいただく中で分かってきた、場面ごとの準備のポイントです。
1. まず、どちらの場面かを分ける
- 受診・検査・治療の説明：患者さんと医療者のあいだ。正確さと中立性が最優先です。

2. 受診の通訳で大切なこと
通訳者は医療判断をしません。診断や治療方針は医師が行い、通訳者はそれを正確に伝えます。症状のメモ、服薬中の薬、これまでの病歴などは、共有できる範囲で事前にまとめておくと当日がスムーズです。紹介状や検査結果は、事前の翻訳もご相談いただけます。
3. 医療をテーマにした会議で大切なこと
女性の健康、ホルモン、長寿医療、再生医療など、テーマごとに専門用語の準備が必要です。あわせて、契約や提携の条件といった商談の言葉も正確に訳す必要があります。プレゼン資料は事前に共有していただくと、用語をそろえてから臨めます。
4. オンライン会議の音声チェック
- 参加者ごとにマイクを用意し、ハウリングを避ける。
- 発言は一人ずつ、短めに区切る。
- 画面共有する資料は、事前に通訳者へ送る。
- Zoom・Teams・Google Meet のどれを使うか、事前に決めておく。

1. 先分清是哪种场合
- 就诊、检查、治疗说明：发生在患者与医护之间，准确与中立最重要。
- 医疗机构与海外企业、医生的会议：合作、共同研究、业务洽谈，需要医学术语和商务用语两方面。
2. 就诊口译的要点
译员不做医疗判断。诊断和治疗方针由医生决定，译员负责准确传达。症状记录、正在服用的药物、既往病史等，在可共享范围内事先整理，当天会更顺利。转诊信和检查结果也可以先委托翻译。
3. 医疗主题会议的要点
女性健康、激素、长寿医疗、再生医疗等，每个主题都需要准备相应的专业术语。同时，合同与合作条件等商务用语也必须准确翻译。演示资料若能事先共享，就能先统一术语再上场。
4. 远程会议的音频检查
- 每位参与者准备麦克风，避免啸叫。
- 一次一人发言，并适当分段。
- 需要共享画面的资料，事先发给译员。
- 事先确定使用 Zoom、Teams 还是 Google Meet。
5. 个人信息的处理
首次咨询时请不要发送病历等敏感信息。只有在准备确有需要时，我们才会单独说明安全的共享方式。

“Medical interpreting” covers two very different jobs: accompanying a patient to a consultation, and interpreting a meeting where a clinic talks with overseas companies or doctors. Here is how preparation differs, from our work on both.
1. First, decide which setting it is
- Consultations, tests and treatment explanations, between a patient and clinicians: accuracy and neutrality come first.
- Meetings between a clinic and overseas companies or doctors: partnerships, joint research, business. You need both medical terminology and the language of negotiation.
2. Interpreting a patient visit
The interpreter does not make medical judgements; doctors diagnose and decide treatment, and the interpreter conveys it accurately. A short note of symptoms, current medication and history (as far as you are comfortable sharing) makes the day smoother. Referral letters and test results can be translated in advance.
3. Interpreting a medical business meeting
Topics such as women’s health, hormones, longevity medicine or regenerative medicine each need their own terminology, and contract and partnership terms must be just as precise. Sharing slides in advance lets us align terms before the meeting.
4. Audio checklist for online meetings
- A microphone for each participant, and no feedback loops.
- One speaker at a time, in shorter segments.
- Send any screen-shared material to the interpreter beforehand.
- Agree in advance on Zoom, Teams or Google Meet.

Case (anonymized): an online meeting between a Japanese clinic and a Middle Eastern company
We provided English–Japanese interpreting for an online meeting between a women’s clinic in Japan and a company in the United Arab Emirates, covering women’s health, hormones, longevity medicine and international collaboration. The client specifically requested chief interpreter Christine Lee, who has a clinical medicine background.

An EMYSTI professional interpreter is ¥12,000 per hour; chief interpreter Christine Lee is ¥13,500 per hour (tax included, one-hour minimum, then 15-minute steps; at a glance: half day 4h ¥48,000 / ¥54,000, full day 8h ¥96,000 / ¥108,000). We cover all of Japan from Tokyo (Shibuya) for East Japan and Shimonoseki (Yamaguchi) for West Japan, and also handle remote meetings and translation of materials before and after.
